Cording foot tutorial

Pop your zipper foot on your machine. Fold the bias tape over your cord and place it on your machine with cord to the left of the foot. Have your needle as far left as possible. Sew along the length. My problem with this method is that there is a limit to how close you can sew to the cord depending on the width of your zipper foot.

Get the cord snug in there and line it up to sew right down the middle of the two cords and put your presser foot down Sew a bit just to get it started, don't worry about back stitching. Since your needle is set to the down position, at this point you can let go and re-adjust a tad and the presser foot and needle will hold the end in place. Place the cording like so. If the end of your welting will be seen, this will help create a finished edge. Fold the fabric snuggly over the cording and sew along the edge. Notice I didn't mention to run and get your zipper foot. I can't find mine, so I just used my regular old sewing foot. Post navigation You can also do cord gathering by folding your fabric over a cord, stitching close to the cord using a zipper foot, and then gathering the fabric along the cord like a drawstring. I've described that method of cord gathering in much greater detail in this tutorial. I have seen the second method of cord gathering on at least one garment from Making Your Own Double Welted Self-Cording. This may look involved or complicated, but really it is quite easy - - I will attempt to explain it as easily as possible! 1. cut 2" strips of your fabric. Cut enough to equal the length of the cording you took off - plus a bit extra. This foot for your sewing machine is a life saver. Wrap the bias strip
