The original HoloLens used a three-layer waveguide array, red, green, and blue, whereas the HoloLens 2 uses a two-layer waveguide array, red/green, and green/blue. In addition to better graphics, the update also helps to make the device ever so slightly lighter. The main issue with the HoloLens is its limited field of view, necessitated by the cost and difficulty of creating the waveguide display. Now DigiLens have shown off a new diffractive optical waveguide technology using nanotechnoloy materials which promise to be larger and much easier and cheaper to manufacture. The HoloLens can actually slide forward and back a bit in order to accommodate things like glasses (which can be worn comfortably under the device. This movement significantly changes the distance from the eye to the waveguide. a state of the art holographic waveguide. Utilization of the waveguide gives a wide 40-degree field of view (FOV), while having a large 30x30 mm eyebox. With the advantages obtained by use of the holographic waveguide and the small LCOS microdisplay, the HWVD system enables significant cost, volume, and weight reductions as Delving into Optics: Basic Concepts for See-Through Displays (self.HoloLens) submitted 3 years ago by BI_Joe I know we've had a fair bit of speculation about the optics of the HoloLens on this sub, but I've always felt my grasp of the basic physics involved was a bit weak. Jan 09, 2017 · How Do Augmented Reality Displays Work? Quora are the commonly presumed implementation used for Microsoft Hololens. Here, the waveguide has a series of very fine structures in a linear pattern The waveguide exit panels, be they holographic or diffractive, look to be big enough to cover the range of interpupillary distances in the population, and I have not noticed hardware IPD adjustment knobs on the HoloLens. Waveguides have been used in the previous HoloLens, as well as with Magic Leap One, and a lot of other AR headsets. However, the images projected int
