Our Home Grown Icon this week .....  Daley Thompson OBE

Francis Morgan Ayodélé "Daley" Thompson OBE was born in Notting Hill, London, on 30th July 1958. He is an English former decathlete who won the decathlon gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984, and broke the world record at the event four times.

Robert Chalmers described him as "the greatest all-round athlete this country has ever produced.

Daley was forced to retire from athletics in 1992, due to a persistent hamstring injury.
